Go ahead and pick your jaws off the floor, yes I'm posting in back to back days! Say What?!
I'm here to make an official announcement...
I will run a FULL marathon in less than ONE year!
Yes, I have talked my husband and my father into joining in as well. We will probably all be beat by my brother if he decides to run too, stupid athletic jerk face. Either way Mama will be at the finish line cheering us on!
A little back story on this decision...I have always enjoyed running. So, at various points in my life I have run a lot or a little, depending on my mood and health set backs. It ain't easy to run on a fractured 5th metatarsal! In April of 2010 I successfully/slowly completed the OKC Memorial Half Marathon and the Oklahoma Aquarium Half Marathon, which was just a few weeks later. I think the races were too close together for me and I was slightly burnt out. I also developed a cyst (yes, gross) in my right leg that made running painful.
My dad took up running with me while my brother was away at Army Basic Training. We wanted to something to fill the time while he was gone and we all needed to be in better shape! Daddio can rock out hill running like you would not believe! His training course is quite diverse and really helps prepare him for a real race. We have completed quite a few runs together, but our greatest feat thus far was the Tulsa Run in 2011. The 15K race was just a couple of weeks before I walked down the aisle...it was special to run the streets of my home city with him.
Post Tulsa Run 2011 |
Originally, the plan was to complete the Tulsa Run together again, but the race is just too close to the holidays to warrant a special trip back to Okieville...and there isn't a TU Football game that weekend! So, instead I issued him the challenge of running this bad boy...
We are not running the full, just the half (13.1 miles!), on October 14th, 2012!
The second part of the challenge is to complete this...
the 13th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon! On April 28, 2013!!
The plan that I created (aka - stole from the Internet and tweaked) officially begins after July 4th, but until then we will be running to get a head start. If we complete all of the runs on our list the total miles run by my dad and myself is the equivalent of us running to meet each other halfway between Jersey and Oklahoma, if you take the Southern route!
I'll be logging my runs on the blog, maybe I can get my dad to join in and send me his info so I can post it too!
So, I ran one mile last night...hey...you gotta start somewhere!
June 19, 2012 - 1.0 miles - 11 minutes 12 seconds
